ARTIST BIO

My first lessons in art were at the SA School of Arts, North Terrace where I learned drawing, design and colour and watercolour painting. I began my art career as a display artist at Myer Rundle Street Store. Around the same time I joined the Royal SA Society of Arts and became an exhibitor in their anuual Spring and Autumn Shows. My career path led me into adverttising as a commercial artist, layout man and account service. In 1958 I moved to Melbourne with Fortune (Aust) Pty Ltd a large national ad agency. In 1964 I started an ad agency with Brian Monahan which later became Monahan Dayman Adams (Phillip Adams). 20 years lated we were the third largest agency in the country, the first to become a public company and I retired in 1985. Moving to Yea in Victoria I began to take up painting again after a very long absence. Discovering I din't have a clue, I took lessons in watercolour with Greg Allen, Ross Paterson, Alavaro Castegnet and Amanda Hyatt. Eventually returning to Adelaide in 2003 I became inteerested in pastels and starting at the bottom I eventually became President of Pastel Artists of SA a position I held for 2 years. In the meantime I rejoined RSASA as an Associate and now as Fellow. I'm also a member of Adelaide Art Society and the recently formed SA Watercolour Society (SAWS). During this long journey I had various solo and duo art exhibitions as well as acvtivity with Art Shows like Rotary. I picked up many awards and commendations along the way. This year at a joint PASA and SAWS exhibition at Gallery M I was awarded best pastel in Seascape Category and a special award for watercolour by SAWS.
